Hollywood has come up with a lot of hits. Some were hit because of the story and some were because of the direction. Here in this blog, we are not going to talk about all the hits but only about Shawshank Redemption. Here is a quick review of the movie that teaches patience and loyalty to most of the people re lacking in today’s world.

This 1994 American film is directed by Frank Darabont and is based on a 1982 novel by Stephen King. This film is a story of 2 prisoners who became friends during their sentence. The movie has been created to attract the mature audience, who values friendship and has been made with full of emotions.

This one of its kind movie talks about banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who has been sent to jail for killing his wife and his lover even though he claims to be innocent; and contraband smuggler Ellis ‘Red’ Redding (Morgan Freeman). During their sentence, they both became good friends and got involved in a money-laundering operation headed by the prison warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton).

The film is being narrated by Ellis in a calm and observant voice. Even though the hero of the film is Andy, nothing has been shown according to his point of view and the movie remained around the prison population and Ellis’s life in prison. From the beginning of the film till the end, the audience saw Andy from another’s point of view- Red, who becomes his best friend, the corrupt Warden Norton, Brooks the old librarian, prisoners, and guards. The audience didn’t get to see Andy as he really is.

With the role of Andy, the director and the writers wanted to tell that people in this world, really need to keep true to themselves and not lose hope. They wanted us to bid our time, set an example, and look for our chances. Andy tells Ellis in the movie, either get busy living or get busy dying. It is always our choice to choose how we want to live.

If Andy had been the narrator, the storyline would have been different and the film would have been conventional, and less mysterious. The film left the audience wondering about the real Andy and that did he really killed those 2 people and also why he always keeps to himself? There were questions related to Andy’s personality and life that were left unanswered.

The only way to know everything about Ellis and everything about Andy from Ellis’s perspective is to watch the movie. It has so much to offer the audience. The film has set an example of friendship with loyalty in prison. During the movie, you will find yourself so much connected with the story and the characters that you will feel pity, curious, and admired.

You can enjoy the movie with your family when you have nothing else to do at your weekend. It is a must-watch movie with a good storyline. So, enjoy it!
